Greetings, readers! I thought it would be fun to post a question in a mommy blog Facebook group I am a member of, and find out how mommies like to spend their precious “me” time. I received a variety of responses, some of which I expected to see, and some that were just downright funny LOL. Since moms don’t usually have a plethora of downtime, it’s really the simple things in life that become more valuable, and desirable when we spend our days (and many nights) focusing all of our energy and attention on our little ones. Let’s take and look at the responses I received!

Many of the mothers listed activities such as, getting a manicure/pedicure, treating themselves to the salon, and shopping. I definitely was not surprised to see these types of responses, because it’s surprisingly more difficult to find the time (or energy) to do these things, when you small children. These are also things that are not typically easy to do when taking children along, which means if you want to get a mani/pedi or do some shopping, you might just have to ask your spouse or someone else to take care of the kids for awhile. For our our first anniversary, one of my gifts was a surprise mani/pedi appointment while my hubby watched our son. Needless to say, it was a very nice surprise, so spouses take note! LOL

This was perhaps the most expected response. However, there were a variety of “relaxation” activities moms described. For instance, some moms prefer to relax by kicking back with some snacks, and watching their favorite shows or a movie without interruptions. Other moms mentioned taking a relaxing bath, reading, enjoying their coffee or tea, and spending time at places, such as Starbucks or Barnes N Noble. And of course, the most desirable way to relax in parenthood: catching up on sleep!

Some of the other replies moms provided were fun and interesting, but didnt really fit into a category. One mommy explained that she would like to have more personal time to explore her spiritual side, while other moms simply just want to enjoy a meal in peace. The ‘eating’ replies honestly made me laugh, because only fellow mothers understand how challenging meal time can be. The fact that my husband is still shocked that I can eat with a child in my lap drives this point home LOL.

Overall, the important thing us moms need to remember is that it’s perfectly fine for us to have some downtime, and just relax. Even moreso, we NEED to have these moments to avoid getting over stressed, and not forget that we need to take care of ourselves too. Sometimes we get so caught up in taking care of everyone around us, that we can’t even remember the I’m last time we did something nice for ourselves, or with our spouse.

Thank you to all the mommies who participated, and inspired this post!
